Autumn passage continued well on Bardsey with the first
start of annual corvid movement being 21 Ravens circling the Mountain
mid-morning. A brief highlight out to sea concerned a single Balearic Shearwater
past the North End in the afternoon.
Two Shelducks were seen out to sea along with one Arctic Skua,
two Black-headed Gulls, one Common Gull, 43 Herring Gulls, 601 Kittiwakes, and
330 Razorbills. A Water Rail ‘squealed’ from Cristin, one Lapwing put in short
appearance at the North End, whilst one Whimbrel and 20 Turnstones were on The
Narrows. A total of 15 Swallows flew overhead,
whilst assorted passerine migrants include 13 Wheatears, one
Whitethroat, two Blackcaps, 14 Chiffchaffs, one Willow Warbler, 28 Goldcrests, ten Siskins, and two Lesser Redpolls.
A Comma discovered at Cristin is only the eighth record for
Bardsey but the second this year, and, two Speckled Woods sunbathed at Nant.
