Today had a slight change in weather, from the almost tropical conditions of late to rather breezy by the afternoon. Not that it stopped the birds, with another new Yellow-browed Warbler trapped at Cristin. Noteworthy were the two Tree Sparrows seen flying north over The Narrows in the morning.
A/the Great Spotted Woodpecker toured the island throughout the day and two splendid Firecrests showed brilliantly once again at Nant.
Seabird passage amounted to 98 Gannets, 38 Shags, two Arctic Skuas, one Great Skua, two adult Mediterranean Gulls, 170 Black-headed Gulls, 19 Common Gulls, 61 Herring Gulls, 22 Great Black-backed Gulls, 450 Kittiwakes, 179 Razorbills, and four Common Scoters.
Assorted highlights from around the island include one Grey Heron, two Buzzards, one Kestrel, one Merlin, one Water Rail, one Golden Plover, one
Purple Sandpiper, three Snipes, one
Whimbrel, four Skylarks, five Swallows, 261 Meadow
Pipits, four Grey Wagtails, nine Pied Wagtails, three Wheatears, three Song
Thrushes, one Garden Warbler, nine Blackcaps, 17 Chiffchaffs, one Willow
Warbler, 55 Goldcrests, 16 Coal Tits, eight Blue Tits, two
Great Tits, one Rook, one Hooded Crow, 18 Ravens, 24 Chaffinches, one
Greenfinch, 14 Goldfinches, and two Lesser Redpolls.
